Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What services are offered by TeamUP! Tutors?
A: TeamUP! Tutors, Inc. matches K-12 students with qualified Tutors throughout the San Francisco Bay and greater San Diego areas. Sessions take place in student homes. All elementary, middle school and high school subjects are covered.
Q: How does the service work?
A: When a parent calls TeamUP! Tutors, we clarify specific objectives and match a qualified tutor to the student's needs. You are then contacted directly by the tutor to schedule a mutually convenient time for the initial tutoring session.
Q: Where do tutoring sessions take place?
A: One-on-one tutoring takes place in your home at a time convenient to your family.
Q: Who attends the sessions
A: TeamUP! requires that a parent or guardian be present while the student and tutor work together. It is important to note that tutors are professional educators who are not permitted to babysit.
Q: What are the tutor qualifications?
A: Tutors are college graduates with proven backgrounds in education and tutoring. TeamUP! works with instructors who are committed to their craft and who continuously demonstrate integrity, diligence, compassion and professionalism. Tutors are required to meet commitments and consistently receive positive feedback from students and parents.
Q: How are sessions managed?
A: You can expect the tutor to open each session warmly, work with the student to plan the session, keep the student engaged and the session on track, and close the session on a positive note. While working with the student, the tutor will strive to promote a positive learning environment, balance compassion and caring with discipline and firmness and reinforce student self-confidence and self-esteem
Q: Is a set curriculum followed?
A: Each tutor determines how best to approach a tutoring session based on the subject matter, student goals and personal style. Your student should make sure to have his or her school textbooks and assignments ready. Tutors may also suggest supplemental materials, such as workbooks or flashcards, as needed. Depending on the student's needs, tutoring efforts could focus on anything from current work and organization to clarifying missed concepts from past assignments and correcting test mistakes.
Q: How does the tutor know what to work on?
A: The tutor communicates with the student and parents at each session as well as with the TeamUP! staff. Tutors are also available to speak with teachers or other specialists via phone and email.
Q: Do you guarantee tutoring quality?
A: We choose our tutors extremely carefully, so you can anticipate a successful session. In the event the tutor is not a good academic or personal match, we will provide you with a different tutor as well as a free hour of tutoring.
Q: How much do the sessions cost?
A:Please refer to our Rates page for details on plans and rates.
Q: What is the minimum number of sessions?
A: Schedule as many or as few sessions as you need, and feel free to plan as you go. There are no minimums. The approach is flexible to meet changing academic needs. When the subject is mastered, simply let us know you're finished and that's it. The tutors know that their goal is to work themselves out of a job!
Q: How long are the tutoring sessions?
A: Tutoring sessions start at 1-hour and can run for as long as you want. The length can vary from session-to-session as long as you inform your tutor in advance for scheduling purposes.
Q: How often does the tutoring take place?
A: Tutoring can take place as frequently or infrequently as needed, and can change according to your needs. Our only request is that you help the tutor manage his or her time by giving plenty of advanced notice.
